- 1 C butter
- 3 C sugar
- 4 eggs
- 1 C cocoa
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 2 tsp vanilla
- 2 C flour
- 1 1/2 C buttermilk
Buttermilk Frosting Ingredients:
- 1/4 C butter
- 3 Tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
- 3 Tbsp buttermilk
- 2 1/4 C sifted powdered sugar
- 1/4 tsp vanilla
For the Cake:
Cream butter and sugar, add eggs and beat well. Slowly add other ingredients, alternating butter, milk and flour. Bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes. Cool.
For the Frosting:
Bring butter, cocoa, and buttermilk to boiling. Remove from heat. Add sugar and vanilla. Whisk ingredients in saucepan until smooth. Apply hot frosting to cooled cake. Serves 16.
